Up In The Air...

It's Jim Oberst!

Jim says:

"I started building this airplane 10 years ago, and took 3 years off while working overseas. It took about 4000 hours of work to complete. I did much of the construction in our garage while we lived in Ohio, and completed and painted the airplane after we moved to HSV.

"I got the FAA's seal of approval on September 5, 2003 and did the first flight (switching roles from builder to test pilot) on September 6 (see photo of the airplane over Hot Springs Airport, where it is based).

"I had to test fly it for 25 hours, and fix various small problems I found, before I could take passengers or fly out of a 50-mile-radius test area. I completed that several weeks ago, and Jeanette and my first trip was a day trip to Eureka Springs.

"I'm currently working on the interior trim, which I did not complete before the first flight."
