Back Yard, Bottom

Sept. 29, 2003:

This area is at the very bottom of our back yard, leading down to the golf course. One problem is that the area starting on the other side of the ajuga is golf course property which we are not supposed to do anything to. A second problem is that the soil in this are is so thick with roots and rocks that we can hardly get a pick in the ground.

For those reasons and because this area is so far from the house that we never see it, we have never seriously gone after it. We have tried things like the Ajuga seen here, but even that hardy plant did not survive. The French Mulberry has done okay, but that is about it.

To really be able to plant this area, we would need to dig it out about a foot down, which would not be easy, and put in good soil. Since this picture, we have covered this area with mulch.
